Computer Information Security and Assurance

Information and network security is a problem that almost everyone faces in today’s global world. One of the biggest assets in business is data. The data must not be compromised, stolen, changed, reviewed or intruded upon by anyone that is not authorized. Graduates of this program will be prepared to assess a company’s risk, document security procedures, implement those procedures, write company policies, review and establish Incident response teams, and check for security breaches in the business environment.

Data security and assurance is a fast-growing field; currently there are too few professionals to fill the positions available. The shortage of information assurance professionals in management ranks for the federal government alone is projected to exceed 20,000 within the next six years. Graduates with associate degrees can be hired as entry-level Internet security, network security and disaster recovery and response employees, support top administrators and specialists. The students will be prepared to integrate new security skills into their responsibilities.

Courses in this new degree option include topics such as access, control systems, network security concepts such as; media, access methods, protocol standards, policies, incident response procedures, threats, cryptography, operations security, and security management.

The student will demonstrate proficiency in:

  • Developing management tools for web and network security
  • Developing and implementing incident response policies and procedures
  • Analyzing and designing secure information systems
  • Recognizing data security intrusion and implementing countermeasures
  • Securing data communication Professional communication skill.

Technical Specialist Certificate

Computer security is known to be a very fast-growing field; currently there are too few professionals to fill the positions available. The shortage of information assurance professionals in the federal government alone is projected to exceed 37,000 within the next six years. Graduates with can be hired as entry-level positions in the development of, and installation of internet security, network systems security, security protocols and are will be prepared to integrate new security skills into their responsibilities, and serve on the security and assurance teams of various enterprises. This new certificate option include topics such as installing and maintaining access control systems, implementing network security controls, firewalls, proxy servers, Virtual Private Networks, cryptography, operations security creation and maintenance, physical and logical security control devices and programs. Upon completion of this certificate, the student will be able to:

  • Implement network and physical security
  • Install and maintain firewalls
  • Execute the disaster recovery plan
  • Establish operating system security and user accounts
  • Develop network domains and groups, the establishing security files

Upon completion of this certificate, the student will be able to:

  • Write and administer security policies and procedures.
  • Create and establish a disaster recovery plan.
  • Direct personnel to secure data during an incident response.
  • Lead countermeasures for a data intrusion.
