The mission of the Business Division is to provide students of diverse backgrounds and goals the opportunity to engage in learning that is relevant, engaging, current, enriching, transferable, and systematic. The Business Division, one of 5 academic divisions at Holyoke Community College, shares a commitment to serving its students with high quality instruction in courses that prepare them for transfer and for careers, provide personal enrichment opportunities, and respond to community needs. In addition, the Business Division understands its role in meeting changing requirements in a global workplace.
The division offers certificates, career and transfer programs in Business, Computer Information Systems and Hospitality and Culinary Arts.
Recognizing that students are developing and evolving as they engage in learning, the division seeks to provide systematic opportunities to help students learn to think both critically and generatively; to communicate effectively in writing, verbally, and electronically; to reason quantitatively; to develop information literacy skills; and to have an understanding of diverse perspectives. The division is fully committed to using technology resources for face to face classes as well as a full complement of online courses; organizing speaker series to bring workforce issues alive; and team and individual projects to help provide a full complement of learning strategies. |
